Makeup brush MOQ is the minimum quantity a supplier accepts for a specified brush or set configuration. There is no single number that applies to every custom project. Before comparing quotations, confirm whether the quantity is counted in individual brushes or complete sets, whether it applies per style or per color, and which branding and packaging requirements it includes.

For a brand, retailer or importer, the useful question is more precise than “What is your minimum?” It is: “What quantity is workable for this specification, and what exactly must we purchase?” This guide explains how to turn an MOQ statement into a clear order plan.

MOQ Per Style, Per Color and Per Set

An MOQ number needs both a unit and an applicable configuration. “1,000” can describe 1,000 individual brushes, 1,000 complete sets or a minimum assigned to each style-and-color combination. Those are different purchase commitments.

Terms to clarify in a makeup brush quotation
TermWhat to confirm
Pcs / individual brushesThe quantity counts separate brushes. Confirm the minimum for each selected style and configuration.
SetsThe quantity counts complete assortments. Record the number and identity of brushes included in each set.
Per styleIdentify what defines a style: a model, head profile, component combination or another stated specification.
Per colorConfirm whether each color needs its own minimum, and whether handle, ferrule or bristle colors create separate combinations.
Total program quantityConfirm which products may share the total and whether individual styles still have separate minimums.

A supplier may define a style differently from your internal SKU system. A different barcode does not necessarily create a different production requirement, while a different bristle specification or coating may do so. Send an itemized configuration rather than relying on SKU names alone.

Also separate sample quantities from bulk-order quantities. Receiving one development sample does not establish the minimum for a branded production order.

How to Calculate a Multi-Style or Multi-Color Order

Add the minimums for the configurations that the supplier has actually quoted. Multiply styles by colors only when every style-and-color combination has a separate minimum. Otherwise, list the permitted quantity allocation and confirm that each line satisfies the quotation.

A conditional calculation example

Teaching example only: the quantities below are hypothetical, not BlendCraft ordering terms. Suppose a quotation requires 1,000 individual brushes for each style in each color. Three styles, each in two colors, would create six combinations and a minimum total of 6,000 brushes:

3 styles × 2 colors × 1,000 pcs per combination = 6,000 pcs.

If the quotation instead allows 1,000 brushes per style across two colors, the same assortment could total 3,000 brushes, provided the agreed allocation for each color is accepted. The difference comes from the stated mixing rule, not from a different way of adding the same order.

Record each line as model + specification + color combination + quantity. Then ask the supplier to confirm the allocation. A total that meets the program minimum can still leave an individual configuration below its required quantity.

Individual Brushes and Brush Sets: Two Product Examples

The following examples use BlendCraft product-page terms checked on October 13, 2026. They illustrate quantity units; they are different products and are not a comparison of price or value.

Published quantity references for two selected products
ProductPublished MOQHow to read it
B18 rounded compressed wood powder brush1,500 pcs1,500 individual powder brushes for the referenced product.
B22 10-piece angled handle makeup brush set3,500 sets3,500 complete sets. At 10 brushes per set, this represents 35,000 individual brushes.

Neither example establishes a per-color minimum or permission to mix configurations. A changed assortment, color combination, logo or package needs review against the actual project brief. A set quantity should remain expressed in sets throughout the quotation, purchase order and packing specification, with its brush count recorded separately.

When comparing options in the makeup brush collection, first decide whether your saleable item is a single brush or a complete set. Then compare like-for-like specifications and order quantities.

Why Customization Can Change the MOQ

A finished brush combines several specifications. Material purchasing, color batches, production setup and packaging can each influence the quantity that is practical to quote. The component with the largest minimum does not automatically translate into the same number of finished brushes: component consumption, available inventory and the chosen assortment also matter.

Connect each customization request to a quantity question
Requested changeAsk before accepting the MOQ
BristlesDoes the requested fiber specification, blend or color require a dedicated material batch? Which existing option can be quoted for comparison?
FerruleCan the selected shape and finish use an existing component, or does it require a separate component or finishing run?
HandleIs the profile already available? Which changes require new tooling, a different component or a new coating batch?
LogoWhich process is suitable for this surface, and how are different artwork versions, positions and colors quoted?
Set compositionDo all selected brushes fit the agreed production and packaging plan? Does changing a brush change the quoted set configuration?
PackagingAre the box, pouch, insert and printing quantities aligned with the finished-product quantity?

For a useful comparison, ask for an existing-structure option and the requested custom option with their differences stated. This shows which requirements change the quotation. It does not mean that every existing structure has a lower MOQ, or that a higher MOQ proves better quality.

The OEM and private label project process provides the broader development framework. Here, keep the discussion focused on the specifications that affect quantity and cost.

Product MOQ and Packaging MOQ May Be Different

Confirm finished-product quantities and packaging quantities separately. A printed carton, pouch or insert can have a different minimum from the brush itself. Extra packaging does not automatically require extra finished brushes, and it is not automatically free to retain for a later order.

A packaging quantity difference

Teaching example only, not a BlendCraft project quotation: a buyer plans 1,500 saleable items, each requiring one printed box. The proposed box has a minimum of 2,000 pieces. That leaves 500 boxes beyond the planned finished order.

Before approving the order, confirm:

  • Whether all 2,000 boxes must be purchased and how the additional 500 are charged.
  • Whether the unused boxes are shipped or retained, who owns them, and the storage terms.
  • Whether they can be used for a repeat order and what happens if the artwork or product dimensions change.
  • Whether any additional packing or handling charge applies.

For a set, count outer retail packs separately from any individual sleeves, head protectors or inserts. One set is not necessarily one of every packaging component. An itemized packing specification makes the calculation checkable.

If the proposed package does not fit the order plan, request an alternative format with its own quantity and price. Confirm the trade-off in presentation and protection before switching.

Compare MOQ, Unit Price and Total Order Cost Together

MOQ tells you the minimum purchase commitment. Unit price tells you the amount charged per quoted unit. Total order cost depends on the actual quantity, included items and separately charged fees. A lower MOQ may reduce the number purchased without producing the lowest total cost for the quantity you need.

Compare quotations using the same brush specification, color allocation, logo, packaging, inspection scope, currency and trade terms. If one quote includes retail packaging and another is brush-only, mark the difference before comparing their numbers.

For a purchasing-cost check, add the finished-product amount to any agreed one-time fees and extra packaging costs that are not already included. Count an included charge only once. If you need a delivered-cost comparison, separately account for transport, taxes and other excluded charges under the agreed terms.

Ask for quantity options around your actual purchasing requirement. Then compare the additional spend and inventory commitment with your own launch or replenishment plan. A discount is not sufficient reason to order more units than the business can realistically use.

Ways to simplify the configuration

  • Concentrate the assortment: ask whether fewer styles at the same planned total quantity change the quotation. You will have a narrower range to sell.
  • Reduce color combinations: fewer combinations may reduce separate batches, but also limit the range's visual options.
  • Review an existing structure: it may reduce development work, while offering less structural differentiation.
  • Review packaging alternatives: a simpler format may fit the quantity better, provided it still meets presentation and protection requirements.

Request revised terms for the specific option rather than assuming any change guarantees a lower MOQ. Keep quality requirements explicit when adjusting the brief. For assortment planning beyond quantities, see the private label makeup brush launch guide.

Makeup Brush MOQ Quotation Checklist

Use this checklist before accepting a quotation. It also gives suppliers the information needed to review a private label brush order without guessing your configuration.

  1. Product reference: model, reference image or specification version.
  2. Saleable unit: individual brush or complete set; identify every brush included in a set.
  3. Quantity allocation: quantity for each style and color combination, not only the overall total.
  4. MOQ scope: record whether the minimum applies per style, per color, per configuration or to an agreed program.
  5. Customization: bristles, handle, ferrule, finish and logo requirements; identify decisions still open.
  6. Packaging: format, quantity for each component, included costs and unused-packaging arrangements.
  7. Price basis: currency, price per brush or set, included items and separately charged fees.
  8. Commercial conditions: quote validity, payment terms, trade terms and excluded charges.
  9. Approval and timing: what must be approved before production, and when the production window is confirmed.

A clear request can be as simple as: “Please quote the attached reference as a complete set, with the listed brushes, one handle color, the specified logo and retail box. We plan [quantity] sets. Please identify the MOQ scope, packaging quantities, separate fees and any alternative configuration worth reviewing.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mix makeup brush styles or colors to meet the MOQ?

Only when the quotation permits it. Shared components may make a combined production plan possible, but each brush head, finish or color can still have separate requirements. Request written confirmation of the quantity allocated to each configuration.

Does ordering samples mean I can order a small branded batch?

No. Sampling and bulk production have different scopes. Confirm the bulk MOQ for the final specification before treating a sample as the basis of a purchase plan.

Is makeup brush set MOQ counted in sets or brushes?

When quoted in sets, it counts complete assortments. Record the number of brushes per set separately. For example, 3,500 sets containing 10 brushes each represent 35,000 brushes, but the order remains 3,500 sets.

Will a repeat order have the same MOQ?

Confirm it again for the current specification. Component availability, artwork, packaging, color requirements and the agreed production plan may change. If unused packaging is being carried forward, identify its quantity and suitability.
